Description: Very unusual Shell Gorget (Pendant) made from the exterior whorl of a Lightnng Welk Shell. This was made during the Mississippian Era 1300 -1500 AD. Patination leaves little doubt as to its authenticity. A total of 24 holes have been drill thru the shell with 2 holes at the top for suspension. The drawing is to help see that there is indeed a pattern here. What it's meaning is is lost to time. It is also quite possible that these 22 holes could have been studded with fresh water Pearls that has long since decayed away.
