Product Details
Macon Co. Alabama ~ Historic Creek Indian ~ Flared Lip ~ Pottery Bowl

Height: 4 1/2" x 7" wide

Grade: 9

Description: Beautifully made Historic (1700-1780 A.D.) Era Creek Indian, Plain Ware Bowl. It features a Flared Lip with 4 evenly spaced 'Nodes" just under the rim. It was discovered by using a probe rod. I know this because you can see where the finder almost pushed thru the pot, but he backed off when he felt it in the ground. So there is a small patch on the inside to cover the damage. On the bottom there is also some tiny pressure cracks and down the side of the bowl is another small pressure crack. All have been stabilized. These were used as utilitarian vessels for storage, or for cooking. Rare to find any complete pottery in the deep south.

Provenance: Found many years ago on private property with permission in Macon Co. Alabama on the "Autassi Indian Village" site along the Tallapoosa River. Ex: The Late Bill Spradley collection.
